Today after school, I get to finish decorating my Christmas tree and my house. I do the tree and decorations by myself every year, but because my schedule has been busier than previous years, I roped my mom into helping me at least put up the tree. I love decorating the tree and having others help is a fun way to bond.
Decorating is one of my favorite things to do, so when Christmas time rolls around, I get excited to put the tree up, put the lights out and wrap the gifts to put under the tree. There is one thing that keeps my other family members from helping me decorate for Christmas. When I get in the zone, I become this crazy perfectionist. No two of the same ornaments can go next to each other, there has to be the same number of each ornament on every side of the tree, and all ornaments, lights, and tinsel have to be evenly spaced. It drives my mom and sister crazy, so they usually just leave me to do it myself. This year, I especially got annoyed when the lights I put on the tree every year wouldn’t work. It threw off my entire plan to decorate the tree.
I mostly am a perfectionist because I want Christmas to be this perfect day for everyone in the family, especially since the holidays are a stressful time of year. I guess I just want everyone to have one perfect day to relax and enjoy with the others in the family
Usually for Christmas tree decorating we try to have our entire family get together and help, but it gets harder to do this as my little sister and I are the only ones that haven't left for college. When we do, we put on Christmas music and have a nice time putting as many decorations on the tree as we can. My dad is also a tree perfectionist, and he always gets annoyed when my siblings and I put ornaments of the same color together. Putting the star on top of the tree is always my favorite part because my dad has to get a chair and contort himself in a way that he can reach, and it's kind of funny to see him get frustrated. We don't have our tree yet, but I am really looking forward to when we do.
ReplyDeleteI have to be completly honest, I despise decorating the christmas tree. My mom always tries to get me to do it, but in typical teenager fashion I do not follow her instructon. When I do decorate the tree, once every century, I just put the ornaments on without giving a care for where they go. So half the tree ends up with 80% of the ornements and the other half with the remaining 20%.
ReplyDeleteI totally get what you mean. I can be a Christmas perfectionist probably because I want Christmas to still have that magic it used to. My family hasn't decorated our tree yet, and it's starting to stress me out. We're also not going to be home for Christmas for the first time, which is a change and different on its own. I know that I just need to relax and enjoy the holidays as it happens.
