Caleb Johns 8: Top 5 Days of the Year

5. New Years Eve
After Christmas day there seems to be a loss of morale in the world. The holiday season ends and the Christmas trees start being dragged out to the end of the driveway. However, there is one day that keeps the magic of the holiday season alive, and that is New Year's Eve. The food is top-notch, the TV entertainment is laughably-awful, and the ball dropping maybe the most thrilling thing I have ever seen in my life. It's a day that you can’t have a complaint about no matter who you are.
4. Christmas
This is probably everyone’s number one. But I thought I’d change it up a bit. What's great about it? The presents, maybe some snow, and of course breakfast. Also, the long break is always a nice additional add on to this day. What's my complaint? The presents! Everyone has to have a present and they are all way too expensive!
3. Independence Day
Independence Day was never a big part of my family, hence why it is as low as it is on the list. However, I do appreciate the history behind this holiday as well as the traditions and festivities that it includes, such as fireworks, cookouts, and lawn games.
2. Thanksgiving
Turkey, a long break, family traditions, how could anyone, not like Thanksgiving? It's a great holiday with even greater food. But the food is not what makes this holiday so special, neither is the long break or the family coming into town, the one thing that makes Thanksgiving so special is the National Dog Show.

1. Labor Day
This might be a bit of an odd selection, but when summer ends and you look at the calendar hoping for the next summer, you might get a little depressed. That's when labor day comes in as it extends our summer just a little bit longer. We may get a long break for Thanksgiving, another long break for Christmas and New Year's Eve,  yet that four day weekend one week into school makes Labor Day the best day of the year.

  1. My favorite day of the year has always been Christmas for obvious reasons, but I never considered the little holidays like Labor Day that give us random, surprise days off from school. I have definitely underappreciated the much needed 3 and 4 day weekends scattered across the school year that holidays like Martin Luther King Jr Day or President's Day surprise us with.

  2. While I respect your opinion, I am going to have to completely disagree that Labor Day is the best day of the year. I will start by saying that I think the best day of the year is Christmas. I say this because we always go to see our family on this day and it is always so much fun. I do have to say, though, that Christmas does not feel the same without snow. And given the fact that we have not had snow on Christmas in a long time, I guess it is safe to say that Christmas has been a little bit upsetting in that sense for the past few years. Spending time with family, for me, more than makes up for that tho. Now, as to your Labor Day thing! I agree that it sort of extends summer break, but the last few days of summer are already a little bit upsetting either way. I do not think that Labor Day is really much different from those few last days of summer. It definitely offers a nice few days off, but I always get a feeling of "ugh summer is over and now we are diving into the school year for another 180 days." To each is their own, though.

  3. In the years I have spent actually knowing the differences between each day of the year, I have determined that days like Labor Day come out on top. Labor Day just adds spice to what could have been another mundane Monday.
I completely agree that the only thing that makes Thanksgiving special is the National Dog Show. I love the format of this post. Keep up the great work.

  4. One of the things I disagree with in regards to your list is the placement of Thanksgiving. Unpopular opinion (I think) but Thanksgiving is so overrated. Also, very brave to not have Christmas first.
